TIGF applies its sustainable development policy to all its activities, encouraging the creation of an economy which respects both the natural and social environment. TIGF maintains stringent standards of conduct so that the impact of its activities on the land can be reduced as far as possible.

In recent years, attitudes and work practices have evolved towards greater respect for the balance of the ecosystem and the protection of biodiversity.

This is why TIGF has sought to build up a team of highly qualified specialists. They help it to find the best way of ensuring its natural gas storage and transport operations can be combined with protection of the environment.

TIGF now regularly exchanges information with the authorities and has brought environmental groups, research organisations and ecologists together around a common objective: to improve each person’s knowledge and practices to achieve greater harmony between the economy, the environment and society.

To strengthen its commitment and limit the effects of its activities on the environment, TIGF has introduced a number of measures above and beyond those required by regulations:

• reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ensure good energy management
  
• prevent the risk of pollution incidents and deal with them (soil, water)
• control nuisance pollution (noise, smells)
• manage waste, with recycling as a priority
• monitor underground storage
• preserve biodiversity
• select suppliers, subcontractors and partners according to their performance in hygiene, health, safety, security, the environment, quality and sustainable development.

As part of the development of its network and maintenance works, TIGF develops "Green construction sites".

TIGF’s environmental management system has been ISO 14001 certified since 2006. That certification, renewed in 2009, bears witness to the appropriateness of its risk control policies and targets. To strengthen its commitment and limit the effects of its activities on the environment, TIGF has introduced a number of measures above and beyond those required by regulations.

• to design, construct, operate and develop gas infrastructures with sustainable development as an ongoing concern;
• to equip itself with the human, technical, financial and organisational resources necessary to meet its hygiene, health, safety, environmental, quality and sustainable development targets.

• prioritise the safety of personnel and property as well as respect for the environment;
• encourage customer satisfaction and dialogue with all stakeholders;
• ensure the observance of laws and regulations as well as meeting the demands of the authorities and customers;
• implement all measures necessary for the control of industrial risk (prevention of major accidents, protection of persons);
• encourage prevention and training activities and change staff behaviour.
