TIGF reaffirms its corporate commitment to solidarity and the environment, by supporting local initiatives. These include:
- the creation of a “nature” path (Pesqué educational route and footpath), planned by the town hall in Perchède (Gers), taking in the mere at Perchède and the Château de Pesquidoux;
- the creation of two newspapers on the topic of disability “So what? We’re all the same!” (40,000 copies of each), written by secondary school students. The project was supported by the schools inspectorate and guided by the Grandir Ensemble (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) association.
- improvements to the infrastructure in the Saragosse district and the Bleuets de Pau stadium (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), on the initiative of the Fleurs MJC;
- the Castéide solidarity run, organised by the Vivre Ensemble association in Castéide-Cami. The aim is to finance the replanting of trees in the Commune of Castéide-Cami, by way of a subsidy to the National Forestry Office (ONF). These trees will replace those blown down during the storm of January 2009;
- the departmental adapted sports committee of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques (CDSA 64) to organise the French adapted sports climbing championships at Oloron Sainte-Marie (Pyrénées-Atlantiques);
- the Lussagnet (Landes) town hall project to bring access up to modern standards, in particularly by providing disabled access;
- helping to create an adapted business: The SEMENS Castle Inn in Saint-Brice (Gironde);
- “Diversification and biodiversity”: reforestation and experimentation in association with the regional natural park at Les Landes in Gascogne;
- the University of Pau – Pays de l’Adour and its ENSGTI (national higher school for engineering and industrial technology);
- the Central School Cooperative Office (OCCE), the school cooperative of the Stanislas Lavigne elementary school (social inclusion classes, CLIS) in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
TIGF also supports work by organisations operating in the general interest.
Social economy and solidarity
In consultation with neighbours of the Sauveterre-de-Guyenne compression station, TIGF has entrusted the landscaping of its new compression station to ESAT, an establishment which provides work for disabled people, formerly: “Le Puch” CAT (disability employment centre). It specialises in horticulture, viticulture and green spaces. This decision is further proof of TIGF’s commitment to the environment (beneficial effects of trees on the carbon balance, reduction of visual impact), the economy (use of a local company) and to society (use of a disability employment centre, sharing TIGF good practice, particularly in the area of safety).
For the Guyenne Artery project, at least one tree is planted for each tree felled!
Energy: have fun and learn
TIGF, in partnership with the Lacq Odyssée association, has developed a teaching module on the topic of energy for schools. “Energy: have fun and learn” provides teachers at elementary schools and secondary schools with a tool to support their work, centred on an interdisciplinary experiment-based approach.
The teaching module was first offered in 2008 as part of the Guyenne Artery project. It was aimed at schools and colleges in the southeast of Gironde close to the pipeline. The following year, the teaching tool was sent out to schools attended by the children of TIGF staff.
The teaching module was experienced by more than 2,200 pupils (100 classes, 40 schools and colleges) in 2009, in educational establishments in Les Landes, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Gironde and Gers, and by more than 600 visitors during events for the general public.
